Professor Ioannis Pitas

Ioannis Pitas received the Diploma and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.,He was the Chair of computer science with School of Graduate Studies, University of Thessaloniki. Since 1994, he has been a Professor with the Department of Informatics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He has served as a visiting professor with several universities. He has published over 1090 papers and contributed in 50 books in his areas of interest. He edited or coauthored another 11 books. He has also been a member of the program committee of many scientific conferences and workshops. He has participated in 69 Research and Development projects, primarily supported by the European Union. He is/was a Principal Investigator/Researcher in 41 such projects. He leads the big European H2020 Research and Development Project MULTIDRONE. He has over 30,000 citations to his work and an h-index of over 80 (Google Scholar). His current interests include the areas of autonomous systems, image/video processing, machine learning, computer vision, intelligent digital media, human-centered interfaces, affective computing, 3D imaging, and biomedical imaging, Prof. Pitas is an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer and an EURASIP Fellow. He is the Chair of the IEEE Autonomous Systems Initiative (ASI). He has served as the general or technical chair for four international conferences. In the past, he has served as an associate editor or coeditor for nine international journals.
